This post is not at all about golf, but rather about family, the other thing we do at StonyCreek. So if you are looking for something golf I would recommend checking out some of our other posts, but if you are looking for something about family and competition, please read on. This years Super Bowl will go down in history with two brothers coaching against each other, not to mention the lights going out in the stadium. I heard several people say that it must be a dream come true for the family that the brothers Harbaugh would be coaching against each other for the biggest prize in professional football, but I personally think it sounds like a nightmare.

Obviously both brothers wanted to win last night, and in wanting to win, you have to want the other team to lose. While I have never played my brother for anything larger than a $20 nassau 3 ways or maybe for the clubs Ryder Cup matches, I can say that I have never wanted him to lose. But unfortunately the byproduct of me winning, is my brother losing. No big deal for us though, we can always play again tomorrow, probably not the case for these two. Only 21 head coaches have coached multiple Super Bowls. I’m not an odds maker, but I would guess they are not good for these two meeting again in a Super Bowl.

At the end of the game the brothers had to shake hands knowing a few things:

1. One of them had just achieved the highest level of success in his profession.

2. One of them had just come very close to that level of success, but fallen short.

3. One of them had just handed the other the biggest loss of his career.

Don’t get me wrong, just getting to the Super Bowl is incredible and I am not trying to diminish their accomplishments at all. Having two of the 32 head coaches in the NFL come from the same family is an unbelievable achievement for their family. However, as a brother, a competitor and a sportsman I think its too bad that this is how their Super Bowl experience played out. For John, it had to be one of the happiest and saddest moments of his life, and I hope Jim gets his chance to win a Super Bowl, I think it would really feel good for both of them.
